Has This Happened Before? Inside the Day Trader Sniper Catalyst Library

A breaking news catalyst hits. Has this ticker done it before, and how did it go? The Day Trader Sniper Catalyst Library answers that in seconds, with real history.

The Question Nobody Answers Fast Enough

A breaking news catalyst hits. The stock is moving. You have seconds.

You read the news. You check the float. You glance at volume. And then the question that actually matters shows up:

Has this happened before?

Has this ticker put out news like this already? Did the last one run, or did it fizzle before you finished reading? Most traders never answer that question. Not because it does not matter, but because the answer is buried in old charts, old headlines and memory.

That is what the Day Trader Sniper Catalyst Library is for.

What the Catalyst Library Is

The Catalyst Library is the history behind every alert. It holds nearly 10,000 catalysts going back to January 2024, and it grows every day as new catalysts are added.

For every catalyst, the library keeps the record of what happened:

  • The news itself: the headline and its source
  • The tape that followed: the prior close, the day's high and the peak move from the prior close
  • The context: float, market cap and normal volume for that company at the time

New catalysts land in the library every single trading day. Over the last 21 trading days (Sep 28 to Oct 26, 2026), 1,248 new catalysts were added, between 26 and 92 on each day.

Why History Matters When Breaking News Hits

A catalyst is a claim: this news changes what the company is worth. History tells you how the market has treated claims like it.

For the stats below, we use only the 5,963 catalysts that have full price data (Jan 3, 2024 to Oct 26, 2026). Each one is measured as the peak move from the prior close on the catalyst day:

Peak move from prior closeShare of catalysts
+100% or more13.3%
+50% or more27.8%
+20% or more52.7%
Under +10%28.4%

The median catalyst peaked at +21.6%.

Read that again. About half of these catalysts reached +20%. More than one in four never reached +10%. Same word, "catalyst." Very different outcomes.

That spread is the whole point. A headline alone does not tell you which group you are in. History gives you a starting point.

A Real Example: Breaking News: Positive Topline Results

On Sep 30, 2026, Connect Biopharma ($CNTB) announced positive preliminary topline data from its global Phase 2 study of rademikibart, an add-on treatment for acute COPD exacerbations. In the library, that catalyst carries the label Breaking News: Positive Topline Results.

So, has this happened before? Here is what the library already showed:

  • This ticker: only 2 earlier $CNTB catalysts, both in September 2026. Neither reached +10% from the prior close. The better one peaked at +3.5%
  • The same category: 71 Positive Topline Results catalysts across all tickers (May 7 to Oct 26, 2026). The median peak was +21.2%. 38 of 71 reached +20%, but only 3 of 71 reached +100%

This one peaked +108% from the prior close, the 3rd biggest of the 71.

That is the value of history. It does not say what happens next. It tells you when something is unusual: a ticker that had barely moved on news before, and a move far beyond what topline readouts usually do. And context is what most traders are missing when the clock is running.

Historical data only. Past catalyst moves do not tell you what the next one does.

How You See It in the App

This is where it gets practical. You do not have to go digging.

When an alert fires and you open the ticker, you land on its LIVE tab. One tap over is the CATALYSTS tab, with two views:

  • Analytics: the ticker's catalyst stats at a glance. PEAK PRICE REACTION shows the average and median peak across its past catalysts. Chips show the total count, catalysts per year, the average gap between them and how many came this year. Tiles for FUEL, VOLUME and RVOL show how those past catalysts traded
  • History: every past catalyst for the ticker as a card, with its range and max high. When a ticker has enough history, its BEST EVER catalyst sits on top

And when you want the bigger picture, the Catalysts tab has the Library, where you can browse catalysts across other tickers, and the Hall Of Fame.

Has this happened before? Now you know in seconds.

How to Use History Without Fooling Yourself

History is a filter, not a crystal ball. A few rules keep it honest:

  • Look at the median, not just the best day. One huge run can make a ticker look like a rocket. The median tells you what usually happened
  • Count the duds. How many past catalysts barely moved? That number matters as much as the best ever
  • Check how often it happens. A ticker that puts out news every few weeks is a different animal from one that rarely speaks
  • Compare the news, not just the ticker. A contract, an offering and a data readout are different events, even on the same stock
  • Then read today's tape. History sets expectations. Today's volume and price action tell you what is actually happening now

The Takeaway

Every catalyst has a past. Most traders ignore it because it takes too long to find.

The Catalyst Library puts nearly 10,000 catalysts behind every alert, and it grows every day. When a breaking news catalyst hits, you can see how this ticker's past catalysts played out, and what the stats say, before you decide anything.
